THE CENTRAL CHARACTER

Kevin

“If everyone says it was a dream, Kevin starts looking for proof.”

Kevin is twelve, impulsive, loyal and never quite as frightened as he probably ought to be. His search for the truth carries him through alien worlds, fractured dimensions and the mystery surrounding the parents he refuses to give up on.

KEVIN'S CLOSEST FRIEND

Kieran

“He treated every danger seriously—especially Kevin's ideas.”

Thoughtful, observant and methodical, Kieran is the quiet balance to Kevin's impulsiveness. He has survived isolation, captivity and worlds he never knew existed, yet his strongest reason to keep going is simple: he wants to get home to his family.

First appearance: The Four Rings

Appears in this story

MENTOR, EXPLORER, RELUCTANT GUARDIAN

Nivek

“Nivek always had a plan. The worrying part was when he admitted he didn't.”

Calm, precise and more compassionate than he likes to show, Nivek becomes Kevin's guide through dangers neither of them fully understands. His knowledge saves lives, while his loyalty gradually turns a difficult mission into something much more personal.

First appearance: The Four Rings

Appears in this story

SCIENTIST AND KEEPER OF DANGEROUS TRUTHS

Kanor

“Kanor called him Lord. Kevin still wasn't sure whether to feel important or worried.”

Kanor is a Horodian scientist whose knowledge reaches into cloning, lost histories and the technology reshaping Kevin's life. Formal, intelligent and difficult to read, he may understand Kevin's importance long before Kevin does.

First appearance: The Dra-Conian War

FAMILY, ALLIES AND ADVERSARIES

Across Earth and Other Worlds

Some offer Kevin a way home. Some stand between him and it. A few are much harder to understand.

KEVIN'S LINK TO EARTH

Finn

“A spaceship was a very large thing to leave out of a conversation.”

Finn is practical, loyal and willing to challenge Kevin when everyone else is either protecting him or dismissing him. When Kevin needs someone on Earth to believe the impossible, Finn becomes the friend trusted with the truth.

First appearance: The Four Rings

KEVIN'S EMOTIONAL ANCHOR

Kevin's Mum

“Don't panic. Think first.”

THE FATHER KEVIN REFUSES TO FORGET

Kevin's Dad

“I'm here. I'm not leaving you again.”

Reported dead nine years earlier, Kevin's dad becomes living proof that the official story may not be the whole truth. Protective, dryly funny and determined to bring his son home, he gives Kevin something worth risking everything to recover.

THE PERSON WAITING AT HOME

Kevin's Gran

“Ah, there ye are, pet.”

Loving, watchful and carrying more grief than Kevin first understands, Gran tries to keep him safe after the hospital. Her fear of losing him again makes Kevin's decision to leave one of the hardest—and most important—choices in the trilogy.

First appearance: The Four Rings

Appears in this story

A DANGEROUS FIGURE FROM NIVEK'S WORLD

Leinad

“You think you understand them. You don't.”

Leinad's choices place Earth in danger and pull Nivek into a conflict where friendship matters as much as duty. His place in the broken sequence of events makes him both a threat and a key to understanding what really happened.

First appearance: The Four Rings

TRAINER AND DISCIPLINARIAN

Chixulu

“Training only looks unnecessary until the danger begins.”

Chixulu prepares Kevin for threats far beyond an ordinary twelve-year-old's experience. Demanding and difficult to impress, the trainer recognises that Kevin's courage needs discipline if it is going to keep anyone alive.

First appearance: The Dra-Conian War

GUARDIAN CREATURE

Docar

“Not every guardian looks pleased to see the person it protects.”

Powerful, watchful and difficult to ignore, Docar stands between vulnerable people and the dangers closing around them. The creature's presence is reassuring only after Kevin learns which side it is on.

ANCIENT KEEPER OF THE MOUNTAIN

Professor Sharpe

“The Power Cell could change everything—if Leinad could be persuaded to reveal its secrets.”

Group Captain Franks

“Lock those doors. No one leaves.”

ECHOES, GUIDES OR SOMETHING ELSE

Aoki · Bijl · Chidiac

“Too big. Too close. Too Kevin.”
